It was ablaze when firefighters arrived and it took eight crews to put it out.

The fire caused "significant" damage and its cause was being investigated.

Then, shortly before 4am on Tuesday, firefighters were called to a house on State Highway 2 though Te Hauke, south of Hastings in Hawke's Bay.
