Fire fighters have extinguished a blaze at Whanganui's Affco meatworks plant.

Emergency services were called to attend the fire at the Imlay Place plant shortly after 2pm today, a Fire Service spokesperson said.

Four fire engines left the scene in the rendering plant of the meat processing company's premises shortly before 4pm, a fire service spokeperson said.

The cause of the fire was yet to be determined.
