Arrest after knife-point taxi robbery

A man has been arrested after the knife-point robbery of a taxi in New Plymouth.

The robbery happened about 9.20pm on or near Sanders Avenue and appears to have involved only one person, Inspector Marty Parker said.

The driver of the taxi alerted police once he was out of the vehicle.

Police searched the surrounding area for the stolen taxi and its occupant.

At about 10:20pm police were called to an address on the outskirts of New Plymouth on an unrelated matter where the abandoned taxi was found.

A man has been arrested and police are carrying out further inquiries.
