Online search for lost love a success?
Wellington man Reese McKee looks to have a chance of a date with the American girl he tracked down through social media.
A British news site has reported it tracked down 20-year-old Katie Capp, who said she was waiting to hear from McKee, 25.
They met in Hong Kong last New Year's Eve. He was admiring the lights and she was crying after losing contact with her friends.
They spent the night drinking, dancing and chatting before she reconnected with her friends about 6am.
Before she left, Capp told McKee that she lived in "DC" and posed for a picture. "Find me," she said as she slipped away.
McKee started a Facebook search at the beginning of this month. Online sleuths tracked Capp down but the level of interest was so high that she deleted her social media accounts.
McKee said he planned to get in touch with Capp once the level of public interest waned.
MailOnline reported it tracked Capp down in the south of France. She told the British news site she did not have a boyfriend.
"I haven't made up my mind yet about whether I like him (McKee) or not. I'm still waiting for him to get in touch."
A date in the future was not out of the question, she said.
Capp is spending a year in France tasking French classes on the Cote d'Azur at a campus of the elite Sciences Po University of Paris, MailOnline said.
She had graduated from McLean High School, in the wealthy suburb of Washington DC, where she was a high achiever and on the swimming team.
Her year abroad in the south of France was part of her degree at Georgetown University.
As well as French, she spoke Spanish and Arabic, and enjoyed skiing and scuba diving.
