Man hurt by falling tree

A man is in Palmerston North Hospital with back injuries after a tree fell on him this morning.

Palmerston North Rescue Helicopter pilot Lance Burns said they were called to transport the man from a Mangaone Valley Rd property, northeast of Eketahuna, early this afternoon.

A St John Ambulance was called at 11.40am and was already on the scene.

The man suffered moderate back injuries and was airlifted to hospital.

Mr Burns said the man was not part of a forestry operation.
