Family members intervened after a woman was threatened with a gun near Lake Taupo, police say.
The ''family violence incident'' happened in the lakeside village of Waitahanui about 4.20pm yesterday, Senior Sergeant Fane Troy said.
A female was allegedly assaulted and threatened with a firearm by a man.
Family members called police.
The Armed Offenders Squad was called and the man, 32, from Taupo, was arrested without incident in the area.
''Police applaud those family members who intervened in this matter,'' Mr Troy said.
The man will appear in Rotorua District Court today.
