An 89-year-old man who has been given a years' home detention for historic sex offences has been named as Geoffrey Cyril Trethewey.
Retired podiatrist Trethewey was sentenced last week by Wellington District Court judge Peter Butler on 42 charges of doing indecencies to children, unlawful sexual connection amd attempted rape.
Trethewey's name was initially suppressed to allow him to appeal a judge's decision not to grant him name suppression but has now lapsed.
His 12 victims were aged from seven to their early teens from the mid-70s to the early 90s.
