A minor nose-to-tail crash looks set to snarl rush hour traffic heading north on the motorway out of Wellington.

No-one has been injured in the two-vehicle crash in the northbound lane on State Highway 2 at about 4.30pm, about half a kilometre off the Ngauranga Gorge on-ramp, police said.

New Zealand Transport Agency live traffic cameras show a line of motorists stretching back to the city.

Motorists could expect continued delays from the crash, police said. The vehicles have now been moved off the road and it was hoped that would begin to clear the way, a central district police spokesman said.

The lower drink-driving limits from December are:

Great - too much carnage on our roads.

Overkill - targets moderate drinkers, not the heavies

Still too little - make it zero tolerance.

Sensible - punishment is in line with lesser breaches of limit.
