Cook Strait ferry passengers face further disruption with a crack in the stern door of the Arahura leading to the cancellation of sailings.

A KiwiRail spokesperson said that after an inspection last night and in consultation with Maritime New Zealand, InterIslander ferry Arahura's sailings have been cancelled.

This has been done to allow for repair of the crack.

"Repairs are underway and we expect these to be completed this morning.

"We are working with our customers to make alternative arrangements for freight transportation," the spokesperson said.
