Police have evacuated the Taupo District Court, the police station and the museum following a bomb threat this morning.
No residents have been forced out of their homes but a cordon has been set up around the area.
Police spokeswoman Kim Perks said the threatening call was taken at the court house, and police were notified about 10.20am.
She would not discuss the content of the phone call.
''Suffice to say a bomb threat [has been made] to the court,'' Ms Perks said.
''We contact the bomb squad and get advice around cordoning. They've cordoned streets and evacuated what we thought needed to be evacuated at this stage and we're making enquiries in relation to the call and the caller.''
Taupo Police have diverted all calls to Tokoroa Police as the situation unfolds.
