An unusually icy start to autumn did not stop Annabel Twomey taking delight in the changing seasons.
Annabel, 3, frolicked among the leaves at Queen Elizabeth Park in Masterton, the coldest place in New Zealand this week, with a seven-degree frost.
MetService spokesman Bob McDavitt said the frosts were over, and it would be warmer by the weekend. Heavy rain is forecast for Northland and the West Coast but Wellington should be overcast and about 15 degrees celsius on Anzac Day.
After the recent fine days and cold, clear nights, temperatures are not expected to be extreme in the coming months, slowly dropping to an average winter low of 11C by July.
