Four people were injured, one seriously, when their car crashed into a tree in Hawke's Bay this evening.

All were taken to hospital - the man with serious injuries was airlifted in the Lowe Corporation Rescue Helicopter to Hawke's Bay Hospital.

The other three occupants of the vehicle all suffered moderate injuries in the crash, which happened on Ashley Clinton Rd just before 7pm, an ambulance spokesman said.

The man with serious injuries was in the Intensive Care Unit, a Hawke's Bay Hospital spokeswoman said.
