The Manawatu Gorge road has opened to two-way traffic, around the clock, for the first time since a large landslide closed it on August 18 last year.

As of 6pm yesterday, State Highway 3 through the gorge was operating at full capacity, although there were still stop/go restrictions at two points away from the slip site, the NZ Transport Agency said.

The highway has been partially open to one lane of traffic.
