A Napier man died after crashing his in to the back of a parked vehicle in the Napier suburb of Maraenui, Kelvin Road residents say.
81-year-old retired Post Office telex machine technician Basil White heard a loud bang about 10am outside his home this morning.
He went outside to investigate and found a car had ploughed in to the back of daughter Patricia's Honda which was parked on a grass verge outside his house.
Mr White said fellow neighbours were quickly on the scene to assist the driver, who died despite CPR attempts.
"We're not worried about Patricia’s Honda," Mr White said.
"It appears the man may have had a medical condition".
His wife Eleanor had been out and returned home to find five police cars, two ambulances and a hearse attending to the deceased man.
She said grieving relatives of the deceased man were also quickly on the scene and she and her husband felt for them.
"You never know what your day is going to bring. It makes you think," Mrs White said.
