An elderly man has been taken to hospital in Hawke's Bay after two motorcycles and a car collided on a remote back-country road between Napier and Taihape.

The Lowe Corporation Rescue Helicopter crew took a 71-year-old motorcyclist to Hawke's Bay Regional Hospital with head and chest injuries sustained from the crash on the Napier-Taihape Road near Kuripapango at about 10.45am.

Hastings police and fire service attended the incident along with a St John Ambulance.

The ambulance service's spokesperson said a call to emergency services came from a nearby property and no-one else was thought to be injured in the crash on the "remote" section of road that runs west to east from State Highway 1 to SH5.
