A 52-year-old man has died after a crash on the Taihape-Napier Rd earlier today.

The motorcyclist crashed head-on into a ute just before 1pm today, closing the road to traffic for several hours.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 06 388 2170 or anonymously on Crimestoppers number 0800 555 111.

It comes hours after a serious crash in which eight people, including a baby, were injured on State Highway 5 between Napier and Taupo.
