A heavily-tattooed Mongrel Mob associate on the run from police was arrested in Waipukurau yesterday.

Miharo Jason Papa, 29, wanted by police for allegedly breaching jail release conditions in Tauranga and for a family violence incident in Hastings, was found in a shed at the back of a residential property yesterday afternoon.

Detective Senior Sergeant Dave de Lange said police were visiting the property on an unrelated matter and Papa was arrested without incident.

He will appear in Hastings District Court this afternoon and is likely to face further charges.

A suspected sighting of Papa in Hastings last week sparked an Armed Offenders Squad callout and caused numerous streets in the city centre to be cordoned off.

Papa was not located in the Princes St house.
