A heap of gutted sharks have been dumped on a Napier wetland, many with missing fins.

Napier resident Kirstie O'Riley said she was walking with a friend at about 8pm last night when they discovered the pile of sharks on Humber St, near Pandora Pond.

There were about 20 sharks, some with fins missing and their internal organs missing, she said.

"I called my mum first cause I did not know who to call and ended up calling the Napier police station, two cops came out ... they called DOC and dealt with it."

Hawke's Bay Regional Council were sent to dispose of the pile.
