A man severed a number of his fingers off with a skill saw in Hawke’s Bay this afternoon.

The Lowe Corporation Rescue Helicopter was called in to airlift the 34-year-old man, who was in a moderate condition, from the Puketitiri farm, a St John Ambulance spokesperson said.

He was initially taken to Hawke’s Bay Hospital, before being transferred to Hutt Hospital for further treatment.
