A fire at a Lower Hutt school last night is being treated as suspicious.

Two fire trucks were called to Randwick School's dental clinic about 11.20pm, fire communications centre shift manager David Meikle said.

A fire safety officer was called to the scene and police were now investigating.

Firefighters were at the small fire for about an hour, Mr Meikle said.
