Traffic was backed up on State Highway 1 for about an hour after a car rolled near Tawa.

The accident happened about 12pm. One car was involved.

There was a single occupant in the car, who was treated by ambulance at the scene for what appeared to be minor injuries, a police spokeswoman said.

The crash happened in the south bound lane on the Tawa straight.

Motorists were advised to take alternative routes through Tawa while the back-log cleared.

Police, fire and ambulance services attended.
