Three slips have reduced the Rimutaka Hill road to one lane on both sides of the summit this afternoon.
The slips came down before 4pm and are blocking the eastbound lane - heading towards Featherston from Upper Hutt.
New Zealand Transport Agency spokesman Anthony Frith said clean-up crews were on site and traffic through the area was being managed.
''There may be some minor delays but were not expecting any significant backlogs.''
Motorists were being asked to take care through the area, he said.
The agency also dealt with two minor slips that blocked parts of the road near Kaitoke earlier today but both were cleared without any major traffic disruption.
