Two people are injured after a crash on State Highway 2 in Lower Hutt.

The accident happened at 9.35am near the intersection with Block Road on the Western Hutt Road's south-bound lane.

Police central communications spokesman Peter Stokes said it did not appear the road was blocked for the moment. "It could be blocked later as they move cars and wash down the road."

He said it seemed two cars had been involved in the crash and one had rolled off the highway.

Ambulance shift manager Helen Shields said two people were being assessed for minor injuries.
