State Highway 2 has been cleared after a crash north of Wellington caused significant delays.

A car and motorcycle collided near Normandale Bridge on State Highway 2 in Lower Hutt just before 5pm, a police communications spokesman said.

Both northbound lanes were blocked for a time after the accident.

The motorcyclist had moderate back injuries.

The road had now been cleared, but motorists were warned to expect delays while the backlog was cleared.

Congestion could be seen as far back as the Ngauranga interchange on the NZTA webcam.
