A 38-year-old man is in hospital after a motorcycle accident in the Rimutaka Forest Park last night.

The possum trapper was riding through the park when his motorcycle fell on him and crushed him about 8.15pm.

Ambulance communications spokesman John Orsborn said rescue helicopters were not able to reach the man due to foggy conditions.

He was pulled out by an ambulance rescue squad after cell phone contact was made.

The man was by himself and on his way to trap possums.

He is in Wellington Hospital today with a broken leg and broken shoulder.
