About 1000 homes in Upper Hutt lost power this afternoon, with work continuing to restore supply for the final 200.

A Wellington Electricity spokesman said power was lost to 1000 properties in Trentham at 3.20pm.

Power had been restored to 800 with remaining 200 expected to be reconnected within the next hour.

Most of the homes that remain without power are on Golders Rd.

The cause of the outage was unknown.
