Hutt Valley police have today arrested man in connection with an alleged sexual attack on a young woman in Wainuiomata.

The woman was attacked in her home in the early hours of Boxing Day.

Police today arrested and charged a 49-year-old-Wainuiomata man with the sexual assault of the young woman.

He was also charged with burgling her home.

The man appeared in Lower Hutt District Court this afternoon.

''Hutt Valley Police wish to sincerely thank members of the Wainuiomata community who have provided information, assistance and support that has assisted police with the investigation into this matter,'' Detective Senior Sergeant Paul Borrell said.
