A truck has hit a train overbridge in Silverstream, Upper Hutt, causing disruptions to rail passengers.
A police spokesman said the truck struck the bridge on Eastern Hutt Rd shortly before 3.30pm.
There was not thought to be too much damage to either the truck or the bridge.
Traffic was not blocked, the police spokesman said, with the truck pulled off to the side of the road.
A Tranz Metro spokeswoman said the bridge had been closed while engineers examined the damage.
Trains were suspended between Taita and Upper Hutt on the Hutt line, she said, but had sincve been resumed.
It was not clear how long the engineers' inspection would take, but updates would be published on the Tranz Metro website, she said.
