Police are appealing for help after a woman was sexually violated following the Flume concert in Upper Hutt on Saturday night.
The incident is alleged to have happened outside the Trentham concert venue, between the race course and a nearby car park area, after the concert had ended.
Police said the man and the victim had shared a taxi from Trentham to Khandallah, where the victim was dropped off at home.
A Maori man, of medium build, about six feet tall, aged between 18 and 20, and with a distinctive tribal tattoo, is being sought by police.
Wellington police said the suspect's tattoo was on his left upper arm, down to just below his elbow, and he was wearing a bright purple and white tie-dyed T-shirt on the night.
Police would also like to speak to the taxi driver, who is described as being of Indian or Pakistani descent.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Wellington CIB on 04 381 2000 or call into the Wellington Central Police Station.
