The identity of a teenager accused of shooting a cat through the head with a crossbow remains suppressed.

The 18-year-old Wainuiomata man was remanded at large in the Hutt Valley District Court today.

An order for interim name suppression was continued.

He will next appear in court in February.

Moo Moo, a black and white cat was found with a crossbow bolt through his head by his owner Donna Ferrari on October 21.

The bolt was later removed by vets at the Massey Veterinary Teaching Hospital, with Moo Moo expected to make a full recovery.

The teenager was later charged with ill treating an animal.

A flood of donations helped cover the $1697 veterinary bill.
