A 18-year-old Wainuiomata man who shot a cat through the head with a crossbow has completed diversion and had the charge against him withdrawn.

The man is to ask a judge for permanent name suppression based on threats made to him and his family.  He was charged with ill-treating cat Moo Moo, who was found with the crossbow bolt through his head by owner Donna Ferrari in October last year.

Moo Moo survived after being treated by vets at Massey Veterinary Teaching Hospital in Palmerston North to remove the bolt.

The man was not required to appear in court yesterday for the charge to be withdrawn.
