The armed offenders squad has been stood down from a callout to a Lower Hutt college this morning.

A member of the public called police about two students in Taita College uniforms were spotted with what was thought to be a handgun Taita College at 8.15am, Inspector Mike Coleman said.

It turned out there was no handgun.

The AOS were called to the scene but were not needed, Mr Coleman said.
