Wellington-bound commuters faced delays today after two crashses in the Hutt Valley.

Three cars and a motorbike were involved in the nose-to-tail crash at Horokiwi near the BP petrol station at 6.50am.

The right-hand south bound lane was blocked for nearly an hour while the crash scene was cleared by police, a police spokesman said.

Police said cars were moving freely but commuters said traffic is at a near standstill.

Traffic had backed up behind the crash but the backlog was clearing now, the spokesman said.

There were no injuries, the spokesman said. The crash was likely caused by traffic following too closely, he said.

There also been a crash at the Belmont lights at the corner of State Highway 2 and Grounsell Cres. The southbound righthand lane was blocked, but both lanes are now open.

The NZ Transport Agency said commuters should expect delays while the backlog of traffic clears
