Two people were injured in a crash on State Highway 1 on the Kapiti Coast on Saturday.

Emergency services were called just after 6pm to a crash involving two cars in Paraparaumu, Acting Inspector Bruce Mackay said.

One of the cars had crashed into the side of the other.

The southbound lane was blocked for a short time, but there had been no reports of traffic disruption, he said.

An ambulance spokeswoman said two people were injured in the crash.

One had serious injuries and the other had moderate injuries.

At least one of them was taken to Wellington Hospital.
