A car has smashed through the window of Video Ezy on Kapiti Rd in Paraparaumu.

A woman put her automatic car into drive instead of reverse and smashed into a small front panel and window and damaged a copper gas pipe bout 12.45pm today.

She also hit a copper gas pipe which started leaking but has now been fixed.

A gas utility representative repaired a minor leak in the gas pipe and said it had not posed any danger.

"It could happen to anybody. It has happened before - same window. It is not a big deal," store owner Melanie Hobbs said.

The driver was not trapped or injured but emergency services attended, Inspector Ken Climo, of police central communications, said.
