A truck wedged under a rail bridge caused train disruptions on the main trunk line this morning.

Inspector Marty Parker said a truck became wedged below the rail bridge, south of Waikanae, shortly after 5.30am.

The low bridge, which goes over State Highway 1, had been the site of other strikings or wedged trucks recently.

While the scene was quickly cleared, the rail bridge had to be checked before it was safe for trains.

KiwiRail notified all trains between Waikanae and Paraparaumu had been delayed but journeys were resumed by 6.30am.
