A man whose body was found on an Otaki Beach had a Facebook page littered with guns and drugs.
Police believe Edward Tahakura, from Huntly, was murdered and have launched an enquiry into his death after a member of the public found his body on September 12.
Late on Friday night a 24 year-old man was arrested and charged with murder.
Tahakura's Facebook page shows the tattooed 30 year-old with firearms, with one boasting he was protecting his marijuana crops.
Other pictures show various guns, unknown to be air pistols or real firearms, displayed on a table, while another has Tahakura obscured by smoke while indulging in a "breakfast bong".
"The investigation is at a really early stage as the events have unfolded so fast."
The man who was arrested was known to Tahakura, who was believed to have been killed where he was found, he said.
The scene examination at the beach had been completed, but Sheridan declined to discuss the case further.
"The police investigation will be on-going as we speak to Edward's family and friends, and the man charged with his murder.
"We will be establishing why Edward and the man were at Otaki Beach. Outside of this I cannot discuss any aspects of our homicide investigation any further."
