Trains on the Kapiti line were held up north of Paekakariki this afternoon due to a power fault.

KiwiRail, at 4.35pm, said northbound services were ''suspended'' between Paekakariki and Waikanae because of an overhead power fault.

Just after 5pm, Tranz Metro said service were resuming between Paekakariki and Waikanae but passengers should expect delays.

A spokeswoman said one service had been affected.

The cause of the power outage was not yet known.
