The Maori Party's flagship policy - the whanau ora scheme - has once again come under the spotlight with a reported $60,000 grant to the Rahui Rugby and Sports Club during 2011.

While the scheme has positive aspects such as the recognition of the need to improve Maori health and education, there is also a need for transparency in the way that grant applications are processed and approved together with a follow up audit process ensuring that the funds provided are properly used for the benefit of whanau throughout New Zealand.
