Congratulations to the editor and editorial team for producing a new look Horowhenua Mail (June 14), particularly the emphasis on Horowhenua news and special features.

While the original introduction of the Mail was a positive addition, the content did include a considerable amount of Kapiti district news and special features. The new Mail is a positive step which should encourage a larger readership, more local advertising and hopefully more "letters to the editor" - an important part of the democratic aspect of the local print media.

The front page feature on the progress of the Te Takere project would have been of considerable interest to readers, ratepayers and residents. Mail reporter Kelvin Teixeira is to be commended on the quality of his work, while the items on the 86-year-old nurse (Mary Judd) and the long service volunteer fireman (Michael Clement) highlighted the value of senior citizens' contributions.
