Congratulations to the people of Levin and Horowhenua on reaching out for progress and historical direction with this new centre (Centre showcase for other towns, June 14).
As this centre is "cultural and community" focused and contributions have been forthcoming both by the local council (through rates) and heavy fundraising, etc, perhaps the excited and enthusiastic David Clapperton of the Horowhenua District Council could provide further details on funding, especially in the "cultural" area.
Have local iwi/Maori made a financial contribution?
Are payments being made to local iwi/Maori for work/designs/ art that relate directly to this new centre? If so, how much has been set aside in the centre's budget? What work is being done to convey post-1840 settler history?
