The Mail editorial team are to be commended on keeping ratepayers and residents up to date with the latest council decisions.

It would appear the future of the Foxton Community Board is in the hands of the community with the need for a community submission to the council before mid-August.

The board has been an integral part of local governance since being established in November 1989 following nationwide reorganisation of local government. The board has been proactive in promoting the area as well as the administration of the Foxton Beach freeholding account - estimated to be at around $1.3 million.

The recently formed Shannon Community Development Trust is great news for Shannon, while the retention of 10 district councillors may be the last opportunity for councillors to decide future governance with local body reorganisation inevitable under the present government.
