To send a child to school hungry, no breakfast and no lunch, is nothing short of child abuse.

No child need to be hungry in New Zealand. The money goes into the house, and there is always some for special circumstances.

It is illegal to smack a child so why are the parents of these needy children not prosecuted?

David Shearer is only encouraging bludging off the state with his proposal to spend many millions of dollars providing meals in decile 1 to 3 schools and all intermediates. Parents must be made to realise their responsibilities to their families, surely.
