Paraparaumu Beach Golf Club's only touring pro returns home for Tuesday's pro-am tournament at the course.

Paul Devenport, born and raised on the Kapiti Coast, last played on the Canadian Tour and will return for the tournament.

He is joined by Kiwi pros Josh Geary and Doug Hollaway, with Hollaway the 2007 winner of the event.

Club general manager Leo Barber said having Devenport among the starters will be a special moment.

''Paul knows every inch of this course, it's a place he's incredibly passionate about, and he is very excited about coming back and playing the course where it all began for him.''

Barber said Devenport won four tournaments on the Canadian Tour between 1999 and 2001.

The tournament is being sponsored by a Sydney-based financial advising firm, after one of the company directors ''fell in love'' with the course.

Barber believes the ongoing improvements to the golf course will go down well with the experienced professionals, and is particularly keen to see the reaction of hometown-boy Devenport.

''While the layout is no different to the course he grew up playing, there are some great improvements, and I know he is very much looking forward to playing it.''

Devenport grew up in a house backing onto the 13th hole at Paraparaumu Beach, and played locally until offered a full golf scholarship from Houston Baptist University in Texas.

The tournament is on Tuesday , February 5, at Paraparaumu Beach Golf Club. Entries are still available at the club, on 902 8205
