Visitors from Lower Hutt's sister city Minoh, Osaka, will demonstrate Japanese crafts at an open day this Sunday.
Demonstrations at Hutt Minoh Friendship House will include tea ceremony, origami (paper folding), kamishibai story telling, calligraphy and making small dolls from scraps of fabric.
The 19 visitors include the mayor and a councillor from Minoh, council officials and a citizens group.
Presenting the tea ceremony will be council officer Kazunari Maeda and his daughter Miho. Miss Maeda presented the tea ceremony at the Minoh House 10th anniversary celebrations in 2009.
There will also be a demonstration by members of the Wellington Kyudo (Japanese archery) Club, paintings of Japan by Wellington artist Henry Campbell and displays of manga (used in Japanese comics), and ikebana.
- Minoh House, 38 Normandale Rd, will be open 1-4pm. Entry is free.
