Israel Price-Vaaitoa aims to play professional basketball in the United States one day.

If he can achieve that, he will have an item on his CV that will cause confusion in the US.

As well as being a top junior basketballer, he has also played for Hutt Intermediate's top netball team.

Hutt are the dominant netball school locally and this year were only beaten by a composite development side, Valley Fonds.

Israel is a lad of few words but he agreed that having a male national basketball representative in a girl's netball side was a bit unusual.

Other sporting interests include touch and softball, and he has gained rep honours in both codes.

Although he enjoys netball and other sports, basketball is his favourite.

"I love it. It is fun and when I am older I want to play for the [Auckland] Breakers"

The 12 year old has been selected in the New Zealand Under-14 Koru team to play in Australia in January 2013.

He is in a New Zealand development team that will play in the US next year and he has also captained the Hutt Valley under-13 team.

That is a big schedule for a lad of his age and he also spends a lot of time training.

Although he lives in Taita, Israel has managed to get into Hutt Valley High School next year.

That should prove a big plus, as the school has had a good record in recent years and has a top basketball programme.

Israel is not the only member of the family to do well in basketball. His brothers Isaiah Price-Vaaitoa and Yordan McCahill played for Taita College, which this year won a junior college title.
