Police want information from the public about a man who who made off with more than $2500 from Te Rauparaha Arena last week.
On Tuesday morning a man, identified by police as Perry Ngawaka Bristow, allegedly grabbed a bag of cash and cheques from a female security guard who was taking it from the arena for banking.
He allegedly then got into a stolen vehicle driven by two associates, who fled to Titahi Bay where they were found by police. Bristow was not with them.
The two associates have been charged with offences relating to the theft of the vehicle.
Detective sergeant Jason Dombroski of Porirua CIB said Bristow disappeared from a house in Titahi Bay and made his way to the train station where he "could have gone north or south".
"Once he got to the train station 'the world is your oyster'. He's understood to be Auckland-based and has no other contacts in Wellington, except the two men he was with. There is a warrant out for his arrest in relation to [the bag snatching] incident."
Bristow is described as a male Pacific Islander, 25-years-old, 180 centimetres tall and of medium build.
Police said he should not be approached.
No one was hurt and no weapons were used, but the security guard was shaken by the incident, Mr Dombroski said.
Anyone with information about Bristow or the theft should contact Porirua Police on 04 238 1420.
