Parking along Main Rd, Tawa, might undergo changes to better suit the needs of retailers and their customers.
Wellington City's northern ward councillors, Ngaire Best, Helene Ritchie and Hayley Wain, carried out an informal survey of retailers in Tawa last week to gauge concerns about parking in the area.
Ms Wain said the survey followed a number of calls to Wellington City Council (WCC) during the past month about the number of Parkwise parking wardens patrolling the shopping centre.
"We wanted to check in with some of the retailers and hear from them about any concerns they may have had around parking."
She said the majority of retailers - 14 of the 18 surveyed - were totally satisfied, and the remainder were satisfied but suggested some changes which would suit their needs better.
"Some had concerns about street cleaning and making the place look tidier so we've put those suggestions to the [council] officers to look into."
Retailers had concerns about better policing of mobility car parks outside the chemist and replacing 15-minute car parks behind the shopping centre, by the community centre and on the west side of the main road with 60-minute car parks.
Other suggestions included having "pop-in times" or short-term parking outside the video shop, dairy and the lotto shop, where customer turnover is generally high.
Ms Wain said the the survey was well received and some retailers praised the job parking wardens were doing in Tawa. All the suggestions will be put to WCC officers for follow up.
