A national craze for placing traffic cones in unusual locations has arrived in Tawa, with the appearance last week of a bright orange cone resting on a gigantic Norfolk pine in Tawa Tce.
The cone has been placed on the uppermost branch of a 20-metre high tree in a front garden on the Tawa street.
Kapi-Mana News got a tipoff about the cone, but when we arrived no neighbours were at home, so how and why the cone was placed remains a mystery - but youthful hi-jinks are a prime suspect.
Last year a Kapiti newspaper reported cones were being placed on tree tops, sculptures and telephone poles up and down the coast.
A cone sitting on a Waterloo Rd, Lower Hutt tree, has its own Facebook page with 195 fans.
Tawa's tree doesn't yet have a fan club.
