Good news late risers, from September the Saturday market will remain open until noon.

In an effort to boost the market's appeal, the hours of the Cobham Court market have been extended. At present it runs from midnight to 10am.

More than 40 businesses under the Canopies have been consulted, most of whom indicated support for the change.

Market director Tracy Johnson, from Porirua City Council, says providing extra stalls and encouraging more of a "city centre destination" with positive offshoots for businesses and retailers, was part of the strategy.

"Extended hours will enhance the canopies area and create an enjoyable shopping experience for customers."

A three-month trial for the extended hours will start on September 1 and be reviewed at the end of November.
